I love a good self-tanner.  It’s the quickest and safest way to get that beautiful summer color without having to sit in the sun for several days. It can give you that faux tan that helps you look your best for a big event or just a healthy sun-kissed glow minus the sun part.

There are a couple of ways you can get a perfect sunless tan. The obvious one is to get it professionally done at a tanning salon — which we realize is not an option right now. The other way is to do it yourself at home with self-tanners.

Self-tanners are an affordable and great way to get that sexy summer look all year round without having to expose yourself to those harmful UV rays.

Another advantage of self-tanners is that you can control the shade you want and you don’t have to worry about burning or tanning lines.
Unlike many self-tanners from the past, the modern formulas won’t leave you with an orange color or bad scent, and the application process is pretty seamless.

Some self-tanners work as a daily moisturizer, which makes applying them as easy as putting on your daily lotion. Other types of self-tanners come in wipes, and all you need to do is rub them on your skin. And then you have the spray option.

If you apply them the correct way it can last for days, some even up to a week. And you don’t have to worry about washing it off when you go in the water.

Whether you prefer lotion, wipes or sprays, here are the best self-tanners that I think you should try. Give yourself that beautiful tan and it will put you instantly in a much better mood.

Jergens Natural Glow

$8

The most affordable option of this list and also a favorite drugstore brand of mine. Jergen’s Natural Glow is a great choice for beginners as well. It moisturizes your skin while gradually creating a flawless natural-looking color. You won’t notice much of a difference at first, but after a full week of daily use, you’ll see your skin a full shade darker. The scent is very pleasant and typical of Jergens products (if you’re familiar with the brand).  The upkeep and application process is very easy and messy-free.  You can get yours here.

St. Tropez Self-Tan Express Bronzing Mist

$20

This is a great option if you desire a deep tan yet seamless and natural. After applying it, you need to wait 3 hours before you can wash it off. The scent is very pleasant and it doesn’t feel sticky, unlike some other options out there. This one is a mist which makes the application process really easy, especially for those areas that are hard to reach. You can check it out here.

Clarins self-tanning with Instant gel

$35

A little bit pricier than the other options, this gel formula is also a great moisturizing lotion and gives you a natural tan that lasts for days. It’s one the most recommended self-tanners by self-tanner junkies everywhere. If you want to give this one a try you can check it out here.

Loving Tan 2 Hour Express Deluxe Bronzing Mousse

$45

This mousse formula has concentrations similar to salon sprays which is why it’s one of the top-rated self-tanners by self-tanner junkies everywhere.

The application process is easy and seamless.  The mousse dries quickly and starts developing under 2 hours after which point you’re able to wash off the first layer. The final result is a beautiful natural olive color.

Pro tip: definitely get an applicator mitt for better results

Beauty by Earth Sunless Tanning Lotion for Face and Body

$30

If you’re not into putting a lot of chemicals in your body this option is for you. Beauty by Earth uses only organic and natural ingredients in its formula.

Another perk is that it can be used just as well in the face as in the rest of your body. This product will give you a natural-looking glow that is buildable if you want to go a few shades darker. It also gradually fades away maintaining the natural look.
