If you’ve been following me on my Instagram, you already know that I recently got my hands on one of those Revlon Hair Dryer and Volumizer Brushes.

I wasn’t sure if I was late to the game, because it seems like everything goes viral these days, but I had to share my experience because I think this is a great product to have. Here’s why.

If you are like me, you love that feeling of getting your hair done at a salon. But you also know how hard it is to replicate it at home.

I’ve been trying to get that salon-quality blowout at home forever, but never got it quite right. Partially because, for most people, it’s hard to reach the back of your own head, and partially because you need great tools to do it. Aside from that, it takes an insane amount of time. And if you need to do it regularly, it’s just out of the question. Of course, there’s always a Dry Bar around the corner for that, but if you do it often enough, it can get expensive.

Enter, Revlon, with this little tool I believe is revolutionary. With this tool — brush, dryer, or whatever you want to call it — you can get professional results, at home, by yourself.

You read that right. You can get professional results at home in just under 10 minutes. I’ve tried a couple of times since I got it and I was blown away by the results. What surprised me was how fast it got my hair from wet to dry. But that’s not all. As it dries it gives your hair that flawless look and lots of volume. In summary, you get perfect shiny and voluminous hair with almost no need to use any other product. You can still use a styling spray to lock in the style if you want,  but it’s totally optional.

The brush/dryer has a unique oval design with nylon pin and tufted bristles which is perfect for detangling and creating volume. The dryer also has three settings: High Heat, Low Heat, and Cool. The Low Heat is recommended for people with fine hair, High Heat is for coarse hair, and the Cool setting is to lock in your style.  If you feel like you need to refresh your hairstyle in between washes, you can use dry shampoo and a texture spray on the cool setting and your hair will look like you just got it washed. It’s amazing!

If you’re the type of person, who likes big hair, you can also add a dry texture spray to the roots and underneath your hair to give your an extra lift, but it’s totally optional. The brush alone can give you a lift without the use of any extra products.

How to prep your hair for use

The hair prep is similar to a regular blowout.  First, part your hair in small portions and work the brush from the top to the ends, in the direction you want your waves to be in. To create the volume effect, work the brush in the roots, always in the low heat mode.

One question that I got asked a lot was if this brush works well in long hair. I have shoulder-length hair and works perfectly fine for me. I would say if you have long hair, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work just as well. Maybe you’d add a  little extra time for the drying part but not much longer.

Tip: I like to let my hair air dry before using this tool. By doing that, I cut the amount of drying time and heat I put in my hair. And speaking of heat, it’s always a good idea to use a heat protectant before using any styling tool.

Where to buy it

There are similar brushes in the market from different brands and different price points that claim to do the exact same thing. I can’t vouch for those as I never tried them myself, but what drew me to Revlon — besides being a very well-known brand — was the fact that this is the original product and the original technology. The technology used on this brush dissipates the heat evenly throughout the brush, therefore, minimizing hair damage from heat.

This brush is currently being sold in many different department stores and online. The biggest discount I’ve seen so far was at Walmart, Amazon, and Target for only $41.99

Final Words

This brush in combination with a few products can be a powerful ally to your hair problems.  If you like to give your hair an extra lift, I really like Kenra Platinum Dry Texture Spray. It has a nice scent and doesn’t feel heavy — especially on my very thin hair.

And if you want to refresh your hairstyle in between washes I really like Kristin Ess Dry Shampoo Powder for that. This powder dry shampoo is much better than a spray-on for a couple of reasons: first, it doesn’t leave residue on my scalp which happens a lot with spray-on products. Also, because of its lightweight formula is really easy to blend.

Second, because it’s a powder you can control the amount you use better, therefore avoiding any waste. As a result, it will save you money in the run.
